Bien Cuit Bakery Review

Bien Cuit, meaning “well done” in French, is a Brooklyn based bakery that specializes in a variety of bread and pastries. I learned of them through Instagram, (@biencuit) as I do many places I want to try out. Now that I live in NYC, I finally had a chance to try the much-loved bakery for myself and see what it was all about.

I have a thing for bakeries. In my opinion, they are a staple the neighborhood and provide a treat or some quick sustenance when you’re on-the-go or want to feel cozy. These are two very important things.

There are two locations for Bien Cuit, and my partner and I went to the one in the neighborhood of Crown Heights this past Sunday. When we left the bakery we walked around a bit looking for a bench but with no luck. We ended up having a super informal picnic- if that’s what you want to call it- on the hood of our rugged truck along the brownstone-lined street. Don’t ever doubt our capacity for charm.

After eating and doing a short video review we drove an hour outside the city to hit the trails in the Hardscrabble Wilderness Area with our two dogs. It was a lovely Sunday, and I’m glad to have finally tried Bien Cuit. I will visit again after I make my rounds through more of NYC’s bakeries and eateries.

If you’re in the area, or have been, and have any recommendations I would love to hear them! Be sure to sign-up for my newsletter to stay in the loop and receive other perks.

A glimpse inside Bien Cuit, shall we?

Don’t mind my ghostly silhouette in the shot… Here are a few of the beautiful breads they bake. I need to plan for it and arrive early to get a loaf fresh out the oven.

While I didn’t order this cutie, I’ve made it a point to on my next visit. It’s flat-top veggie croissant breakfast sandwich. I can only imagine the crunch on that thing.

On the way back to our truck…

I’ll never get over how gorgeous the architecture is here. This is on Prospect Pl. in Crown Heights.

These next ones are what ordered. This one’s their Apple Cardamom Danish. It was very tasty. The addition of cardamom is what did it for me.

Their veggie croissant was hands down my favorite item. I love the contrast of the light and crisp veggies with the buttery richness of the croissant.

Now this sexy one is their Cinnamon Sugar Roule. I very much mispronounced it in the video, but “roule” means “rolled”. I imagine it’s named as such because it’s rolled in cinnamon and sugar.

Now, don’t tell me the beautiful bottom of this doesn’t look like chicharron?! The roule was my second favorite item I tried. I love how light it was. Not too overpowering or sweet. Perfect.
